Hector Duarte’s House and Studio

The prolific Hector Duarte is a Pilsen, Chicago-based muralist whose works deal with themes of identity, immigration, and freedom. He painted his home/studio with a mural called “Gulliver in Wonderland.” It features a giant, outstretched Mexican immigrant as Gulliver, struggling to break free from the barbed wire that binds him. His studio is a popular stop in many Chicago art tours.

I actually have one of his wearable works in my collection 🙂 that I purchased in the studio during an OpenHouse Chicago event a few years ago – a signed t-shirt, well, imprinted with his thumbprint which he did right in front of me.
